Designed by WOHA, the Pan Pacific Orchard in Singapore was recently named the Best Tall Building Worldwide for 2024 by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), a leading authority on skyscrapers. Its “hotel in nature” concept, featuring lush greenery that cools the space, earned it the award. Standing 461 feet tall, the 35-story building has 347 rooms and features open-air terraces filled with plants and trees.

Each terrace at the Pan Pacific Orchard has its own theme. The Forest Terrace on the ground floor features a water plaza and trees. The Beach Terrace offers a lagoon, palm groves, and a sandy beachfront. Higher up, the Garden Terrace includes a bar, lounge, and manicured garden with reflection pools. The Cloud Terrace, at the top, hosts an events plaza, ballroom, and more gardens. These terraces are integrated with the hotel’s interiors, allowing natural light and ventilation to create a comfortable, breezy environment in tropical Singapore.

“The project breaks away from conventional tower designs by incorporating large open-air atria that reduce its environmental footprint and encourage interaction between nature, the city, and diverse communities,” said CTBUH. “Its semi-outdoor tropical spaces cut the need for mechanical cooling, and the 45% external to 55% internal surface ratio improves energy efficiency. These features align with Singapore’s sustainability goals and the global effort to reduce the environmental impact of urban areas.”

The Pan Pacific Orchard emphasizes greenery and sustainability, with solar panels, rainwater collection systems, and on-site food waste processing. It also won CTBUH’s Best Tall Building 100-199 Meters and Space Within Category awards.
