Microsoft has always focused on offering gamers a variety of accessory options, especially with Xbox controllers. We’ve seen themed releases like the Dune: Part Two, Deadpool Edition, and Remix Special Edition controllers, as well as unofficial designs like the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla controller.

Recently, Xbox Design Lab impressed with the translucent blue Xbox Wireless Controller – Sky Cipher Special Edition. Now, Microsoft has unveiled the Ghost Cipher Special Edition, continuing this trend of unique designs.

The Ghost Cipher Special Edition gamepad features a transparent shell that reveals its inner workings. This trend of transparent gadgets is gaining popularity, and I’m all for it. The silver interior, grey joystick, and bronze accents on the triggers and D-pad give it a sleek, futuristic look, while the white buttons and Xbox logo add a touch of sophistication.

This clear design will appeal to millennials who remember the translucent iMacs and Gen-Z fans of Nothing’s transparent style. Priced at $70, the special edition controller is available for pre-order and will be released on October 8. Additionally, the Cipher Series expands with two new D-pad and paddle designs, Energy Chroma and Sunset Chroma, featuring a mesmerizing gradient that changes color based on the viewing angle.

Xbox Design Lab has also created translucent shells for the Elite Series 2. Available in colors like Ghost Cipher (colorless), Velocity Cipher (green), Candy Cipher (pink), Pulse Cipher (red), Astral Cipher (purple), and Surf Cipher (teal), these faceplates contrast beautifully with black handles. You can mix and match button and trigger colors for full customization.

The Design Lab’s mod kits are inspired by the ’90s and early 2000s, featuring six vibrant transparent top case designs in candy colors. These cases highlight the metallic frame of the Elite Series 2 controller, showcasing its external beauty and advanced engineering. Customizations for the Elite 2 controller start at $150, allowing you to completely refresh your controller’s look.
