There’s still plenty of time before the iPhone 17 series (assuming that’s the name) is released, but rumors are already circulating. Some suggest Apple might introduce a new Slim or Air model, alongside the regular iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and Pro Max. According to Jeff Pu from Haitong International, hardware details have already leaked.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be the flagship models with advanced cameras and performance, powered by a Pro chipset. If the iPhone 17 Air or Slim model is real, it could be a mid-tier option in the lineup.
iPhone 17 Slim/Air and iPhone 17 Pro hardware details leak
iPhone 17 Slim/Air
According to analyst Jeff Pu, in a new research note (via MacRumors), the rumored iPhone 17 Air or Slim will feature the A19 chipset, manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process, just like the A18 Pro. It is expected to come with 8GB of RAM and may include support for Apple Intelligence features.
The iPhone 17 Slim/Air is rumored to feature a 6.6-inch display, slightly smaller than the 6.7-inch screen of the “Plus” model. It is expected to have an aluminum frame and use Face ID for security. For cameras, the phone may include a single 48MP rear sensor and a 24MP front camera for selfies. Analyst Jeff Pu suggests that this model might have a slightly different design from current iPhones and could replace the iPhone Plus variant, likely due to lower buyer interest in the Plus version.
iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max
Jeff Pu, via MacRumors, suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will feature a 48MP telephoto camera and a 24MP front camera for selfies. In contrast, the iPhone 16 Pro series has 12MP cameras for both telephoto and selfies. Pu also expects the iPhone 17 Pro models to come with 12GB of RAM, an upgrade from the 8GB RAM in the iPhone 16.
According to analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may feature a “much narrowed Dynamic Island,” made possible by a smaller “metalens” for the Face ID system. If true, this would mark the first size reduction of the Dynamic Island since its debut on the iPhone 14 Pro models.
Pu also suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will keep the same display sizes as the iPhone 16 Pro, at 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively. Both phones are expected to be powered by the A19 Pro chip, which will be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process, the same as the A18 Pro chip.
